Project Type:

Wood Working

Date:

September 2020

Skill Level:

Any...with the right tools (results my vary)

Would I do it again?

Yes

This project is actually my second go around with this intarsia goldfish pattern. I was pretty happy with the results of my first attempt, which is what motivated me to do it again so I could implement some of the lessons learned. First big lesson, DON’T STAIN IT.

With this version of the goldfish I paid more attention to the grain direction and wood color when laying out the pattern before cutting on the scroll saw. Even though I only used a 1″ thick piece of pine there was enough variation in grain pattern and color to suffice the look I was going for. (When I get a little more practice I will start to incorporate different wood types).

What the heck is intarsia? Intarsia is a woodworking technique that uses varied shapes, sizes, and species of wood fitted together to create a mosaic-like picture with an illusion of depth.

STILL IN PROGRESS, CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES.
