As one of my first ‘real’ sewing project attempts, I upcycled an old pair of jeans that still fit good around the waist but were tight in the thighs. I cut away the jeans just below the pockets (keeping the pockets was a priority since most skirt designs provide unusable pockets that are just for looks) and sewed a light cotton fabric around the bottom of the jeans. The target length for the skirt was mid-shin. I added a quarter inch black double bias strip along the bottom of the skirt to weigh the fabric down as well as make it look more finished.
